15 Irregular Migrants Were Rescued Off the Coast of Muğla, 1 Person Recovered Unconscious Unfortunately Lost His Life Despite All Efforts
At 04.09 am on October 22, 2022, upon a report regarding a group of irregular migrants off the coast of Karaada of Bodrum, Muğla in a lifeboat was received and one Coast Guard Boat (TCSG-31) was dispatched to the scene. 15 irregular migrants that were found in the lifeboat were rescued by the Coast Guard that was dispatched, and scars of battery were recorded on the individual that was found unconscious. The individual was handed over the to the healthcare staff in the 112 Emergency Ambulance but unfortunately lost his life despite all efforts. The initial information obtained from the rescued migrants indicated that they went to Greece on October 20, 2022 (Kos Island) and were apprehended there by Greek security officers, their valuables were confiscated and that they were battered after being handcuffed. In their statements the migrants stated that there was another Turkish-speaking person in the place they were taken to that was not a part of their group and that this person was tortured by electrification. The migrants also stated that this person was put on a lifeboat together with their group and that they were pushed back to Turkish territorial waters. Following ID checks, it was detected that this person was a Turkish citizen that was wanted in Türkiye. Autopsy to determine the cause of death for the said individual is continuing. Bodrum Chief Public Prosecution Office has initiated an investigation regarding the incident.
